The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services.
The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS) and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). SHS provides primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray to over 35,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. SHS staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals.
This position will greet and assist patients in a large multi-physician ambulatory clinical practice. Verify eligibility, check-in and schedule patient appointments using electronic medical records (EMR). Guide patients in accessing various services at Student Health Services. Arrange for physician referrals and schedule procedures and tests. Provide administrative support for medical providers. Mediate patient complaints. Serve as pharmacy cashier and provide customer service for SHS.
Process customer prescription and "over-the-counter" purchases on a credit card terminal. Make necessary transaction adjustments, reconcile receipts, and run settlement reports. In consultation with the pharmacist, assist patients with selecting "over-the-counter" pharmacy items. Maintain stock of "over-the-counter" merchandise. Assist in other areas of the clinic as needed. Administers centralized timekeeping reporting system (biweekly and monthly), vacation accounting, holiday pay, overtime and comp time calculations for over 100 Student Health and Wellbeing (SHW) employees.
Customer service experience working as a receptionist in an ambulatory clinical setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of health information and medical terminology.
Ability to accurately assess urgency of problems and act accordingly. Ability to work under pressure calmly and efficiently, coping with variable workloads.
Proven cashiering experience especially the ability to use a computer terminal to complete credit card transactions, run reports, assess patient prescription and service fee information.
Strong skill to perform accurate numerical calculations with attention to details. Skill to accurately and completely process credit card purchases.
Provide accurate accounting and record keeping; perform transaction adjustments, run settlement reports, and reconcile receipts.
Demonstrated experience using computerized patient scheduling systems for information retrieval and data entry; knowledge of medical records management.
Strong strength in verbal and written communication including experience communicating in a professional, pleasant, and courteous manner and providing excellent customer service.
Excellent active listening skills and ability to act upon patient's concerns with a caring demeanor. Ability to deal with patient issues regarding sexuality without expressing personal bias or value judgment.
Flexibility to work in different areas with changing tasks, priorities, and interruptions. Demonstrated skill in maintaining confidentiality and patient privacy.

Current Basic CPR certification or ability to obtain within one (1) month.
TB screening and flu vaccination are required annually.
Must complete initial mandatory health requirements, and current clear TB test results and flu vaccination. In the absence of immunization records, titer or blood test will be required to determine if other immunizations are needed.
