This is an opportunity to concentrate primarily on clinical care.Involvement in clinical research is not required; however, research interests can be supported if desired. Our endocrinology team, led by medical director, Dr. Paul Thornton, is comprised of board certified pediatric endocrinologists, certified pediatric nurse practitioners, certified educators, psychologists and other pediatric specialists, creates individualized treatment plans incorporating the latest technological advances in diagnosis and care. One of the world's most respected congenital hyperinsulinism centers is right here at Cook Children's.The department also includes a world-renowned pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Don Wilson, known for his work in genetic and acquired forms of dyslipidemia.
Cook Children's Medical Center is a non-academic, tertiary care 433-bed pediatric hospital.Cook Children's physicians enjoy a collegial relationship with more than 400 specialty and primary care pediatric providers. Cook Children's Physician Network is the employed physician component of Cook Children's Health Care System, a pediatric system of care where physician leadership is fostered and physicians actively participate in the strategic goals as well as the mission of the organization.
Cook Children's records approximately one million patient encounters each year through its medical center, specialty and primary care offices, neighborhood clinics, outpatient settings and home health visits. In fiscal year 2016, that included nearly 10,947 admissions (2,532 to neonatal and pediatric intensive care) and 203,181 visits to our Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centers. Additionally, Cook Children's Teddy Bear Transport, one of the country's largest pediatric/neonatal transport teams, brought 3,555 children to our medical center to receive life-saving critical care.
Qualifications: Candidates must be board certified/board eligible in pediatric endocrinology and eligible to secure an unrestricted Texas Medical License.
