The Psychiatric NursePractitioner, an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) with specialized,advanced education and clinical competency, provides behavioral health care fora diverse population in a university health setting.
Providesindividualized psychiatric outpatient and psychiatric urgent care.
Assesses social/economicfactors for each patient to individualize care and response of interventionsand revises interventions to achieve optimum results.
Manages care ofpatients in a way that balances quality and cost.
Collaborates andcoordinates patient care with UHS medical providers as needed.
Consults with casemanagement and therapy staff regarding patients and with other health careproviders about established patients admitted to hospital.
Orders and interpretslaboratory tests for screening and for diagnosing.
Makes appropriatereferrals, initiates and maintains follow-up of patients of concern.
Covers primary carefunctions for the medical providers as needed and teaches in the College ofNursing and the University as assigned.
Develops and implements patient treatment plan to promote,maintain and/or restore health.
Obtains informed consent from patients as appropriate andnecessary
Provides Quality Assurance and maintains professionaldevelopment.
Performs other duties as requested by the UHS Administrator.
