Children’s Health has an exciting career opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider within the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders. In collaboration with an Attending Physician, the Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for the direct care of a population of patients admitted to the Hematology/Oncology Day Hospital. Specific responsibilities include overseeing the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive therapies; and coordinating/communicating all aspects of care with patients/families and the healthcare team. Applicant must demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to function independently.
Key Responsibilities for the APP include:
Utilizing advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients. Performing and documenting daily assessments. Collecting and analyzing data and formulating a family-centered plan of care.
Assessing the complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Using relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability. Utilizing the data to formulate a plan of care.
Serving as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Acting as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
Facilitating the patient’s transition between and within health care settings.
Participating in professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participating in the professional development of others. Acting as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, APPs, students, and other health care providers.
Demonstrating a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety.
Days; Monday through Friday
Preferred: Experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in Hematology/Oncology
Licenses & Certifications:
Current RN license (or eligible) in the State of Texas
Recognition as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (or eligible) by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, or
Physician Assistant (PA-C), licensed in the State of Texas.
Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider, and current PALS certification.
