The University of Virginia Department of Student Health invites qualified applicants for a staff physician position with an anticipated start date of January, 2019. The clinician hired for this position will be expected to provide high quality, evidence-based primary and gynecologic health care to University of Virginia students.
Staff Physicians provide healthcare to UVA students in compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Department of Student Health. Students are seen for a variety of health issues including acute and chronic conditions. Student Health also offers preventive services, office-based procedures, and referral coordination for specialized care. Patients are seen on an appointment basis, with a complementary triage system for patients with urgent problems. Physicians share consulting responsibilities for nurse practitioners and physician assistants on staff.
Staff physicians provide supervision and instruction to rotating residents, medical students, and nursing students. Staff physicians also participate in clinical and epidemiologic research studies at Student Health. Staff physicians are expected to share on-call responsibilities.
Candidates must have a Medical Doctorate (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Requirements also include completed residency in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics before start date; Board certified/board eligible in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics; licensed or license eligible (before start date) in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and DEA certification prior to start date is also required. Preference will be given to candidates with college health and/or adolescent medicine experience.
Knowledge of and experience with providing care for clinical issues commonly encountered in an outpatient, ambulatory health care setting and outpatient, ambulatory gynecologic care is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary. Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of individuals and organizations is expected. Working knowledge and familiarity with electronic medical records is required.
In accordance with University policy, appointment is contingent upon successful completion of the required employment and criminal background checks, drug screening, application for membership to the Medical Staff of the Department of Student Health. As a member of the Medical Staff, professional conduct is expected in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, in addition to working collegially with staff and students and being a supportive member of group practice.
